The Artemis Center for Guidance

Kate DeStefano-Torres is founder of the Artemis Center for Guidance LLC, an outpatient private practice specializing in psychotherapy services for adults and children.  Her professional team is on the front lines of our nation’s mental health crisis, working tirelessly to confront a rising tide of challenges exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“My job is to make sure my clinicians are doing well, that they are very well supported and therefore can provide excellent care to their clients.  After all, the client is at the center of everything that we do.”

On the Cutting Edge

While researching strategies to improve the therapeutic alliance between patient and client, Kate came across Mirah, the industry leader for Measurement-Based Care (MBC).  MBC is now an established concept; collecting information from patients, highlighting problematic behavior and analyzing the data for overall progress is a common-sense approach to therapeutic care.  What Mirah offered Kate was an intuitive platform to access evidence-based measures, tools, and resources necessary to employ Measurement-Based Care with precision and ease.

“With Mirah, the charts and graphs show us what we're achieving and what we need to be working on.  The client and clinician have a laser focus on what the problem is and what the goal is, allowing us to move forward much more quickly.”  Kate DeStefano-Torres

Kate found that her staff adopted Mirah enthusiastically.  Greater insight into their clients’ symptoms and functioning allows them to more readily address declining status as well as gauge progress on the identified therapeutic goals.

“Our clients love seeing the progress that they’ve made”  Kate DeStefano-Torres

Financial Impact

Leveraging Mirah’s streamlined platform and unparalleled support, Kate has seen the revenue at her practice rise significantly in tandem with efficacy of treatments.  Artemis has been able to increase insurance reimbursement revenue by 26% per session in 2020 by including clinically-indicated assessments in their billing.  This was a direct result from implementing Mirah’s program across the organization.  Since MBC is proven to enhance clinical outcomes, many commercial insurance policies reimburse for MBC assessments today- and the trend is rapidly increasing.

This significant increase in revenue allows Artemis to offer discounted services to folks who cannot typically afford therapy, permitting greater outreach in the community. As a principle, Kate believes this is what counseling and therapy are all about- providing quality care to those who need it while ensuring adequate compensation for those administering it.

“Using Mirah with clients has been such a game-changer for us. Now, I can provide best-practice care to my clients and train my staff on a new evidence-based treatment, without negatively impacting my practice bottom-line because of payer reimbursement. MBC with Mirah is the best solution for clients, staff, and the practice overall.”

What comes next

Regarding the future of her industry Kate poses a question:

“If we are going to do things differently in this field, how will people overcome their inherent resistance to change?  The immediate and positive results provided by MBC speak for themselves. Without using data provided by a platform like Mirah, everything we do is subjective.”
